Bringing Families into the Workplace in Fashion & Retail
How we designed a two-track Family Day to bridge the gap between employees' work lives and personal lives.
The challenge
For most employees, work lives and personal lives rarely intersect. The organization — a leading French fashion and clothing brand — wanted to close that gap, bringing employees' families into the workplace to meet their colleagues, experience the physical workspace, and connect with the company itself, not just hear about it secondhand.
- The Ask: Host a Family Day that makes the workplace feel personal, not performative.
- The Constraint: Engage two very different audiences — adults and children — in the same half-day, same space.
- The Goal: Make the experience belong to every family member, not just the employee.
Our approach
We designed two parallel tracks running through the day — one for adults, one for children — so every family member had something built specifically for them:
[Track 1] Adult Engagement
Icebreaker activities to ease colleagues and families into the space, followed by a Kintsugi-inspired art session centered on gratitude and self-reflection — turning a craft activity into a quiet moment of genuine connection.
[Track 2] Children's Engagement
A magic show paired with a hands-on clay workshop, giving kids their own dedicated experience alongside the adults' track — not a side activity, but a core part of the day.
Impact and outcome
The day brought a personal, human dimension into the workplace. It strengthened interpersonal bonds and team cohesion, created an inclusive family experience that stayed with every attendee, and deepened emotional awareness among colleagues.
"I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire team of FriendsSquare for organizing such a wonderful and successful Family Day event for us. Planning, coordination to execution was commendable, but what stood out for me was the thought given for making the event enjoyable and inclusive for all generations—from our elderly family members to the youngest children. Seeing everyone participate with such enthusiasm was extremely satisfying. It was clearly a collective teamwork driven by strong collaboration, ownership, and attention to detail. Thank you once again for creating such a positive and memorable experience for our employees and their families."
